How Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Achieves Greatness by Partnering with Securitas Technology
Protect. Perform. Progress.
Overview
Performance starts with protection.
For Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) Racing to focus on winning races, the team must first help ensure the safety of their people, property, and assets. Whether it’s an employee entering the RLL headquarters for a day of work or a driver entering their car to compete in the Indianapolis 500, every team member plays a critical role in the success of the team.
When it comes to outperforming the competition, being able to focus without distraction or concern can make all the difference. It requires data-based insights to ensure car and driver are performing at the highest level possible safely and efficiently. At Securitas Technology, we help to ensure that peace of mind is there.
About Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL)
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, based in Zionsville, Ind., is co-owned by three-time INDYCAR Champion and 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal, former CBS Late Show host David Letterman and Mi-Jack co-owner Mike Lanigan. At the end of the 2023 season, RLL had secured a legacy of winning with 29 INDYCAR wins, 33 poles, 109 podium finishes, the 1992 series championship, the 2004 Indy 500 pole with Buddy Rice, and the 2020 Indy 500 with Takuma Sato.
Challenge
In May 2021, RLL broke ground on a new 100,000 square-foot headquarters in Zionsville, Indiana, and in 2022, the state-of-the art racing, business and commercial building officially opened.
“It was really designed to give our people an environment to excel,” Rahal said in an interview with WRTV. “A building in itself won’t win races, but if you create an environment that brings out the best in people, that will win races for you.”
Beyond the expected infrastructure for a commercial office, the new building features 12 service bays, a fully replicated pit stop, and a Mission Control room that allows the team to remotely monitor races across the country.
Housing both its INDYCAR and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship operations, cybersecurity, particularly as it relates to protecting IP, was also critically important to the security program.
“These cars are nothing but data-generators,” Rahal said. “The reams of information we have and the data, it’s taken years to accumulate. The protection of that IP is critical to us because we can’t have it walking out the door.”
"Having a partner like Securitas Technology gives us a great deal of confidence that the assets in the confines of this building are safe and secure.”
Solution
As the Official Security Solutions Provider for RLL, Securitas Technology partnered with the team to build a security program, including intrusion, video surveillance, and access control, to help create a safe and secure environment to pursue greatness on and off the track.
“This building and everything going on in this building, whether it’s commercial enterprises or the mechanical engineering side of the equation, they’re assets and they’re tremendous value to us,” Rahal said. “So having a partner like Securitas Technology gives us a great deal of confidence that the assets in the confines of this building are safe and secure.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team,” said Tony Byerly, Global President Securitas Technology. “In order to achieve greatness, race teams must demonstrate teamwork, a commitment to precision and excellence, and a vision of what’s possible. We come alongside RLL in that shared vision, which makes this partnership a natural fit. We look forward to helping make a safer and more secure environment for RLL and everyone who enjoys motorsports.”
